Louis's Surgery

The Transplant · Freeing Louis

Thirty-minute battlefield operation replacing Louis's machine heart and lungs with naiad organs.

Story so far

With Epitome Tagg riding Louis's flesh golem body, the Princess Posse cannot claim victory until the link is cut, so Mordecai gives it thirty minutes and begins. He declares aloud that the procedure is allowed under the non-combatant code and that there is no second party in the empty shell. Edgar assigns roles: Mordecai cuts, Donut administers the Fine Healing Potion, Carl and Tipid hold the ribcage open against the healing trying to close it, and Imani and Rosetta open Princess Lunette to extract her heart and pulmonary system. Bautista flees the tent rather than take his assigned position.

Tagg's organs prove mostly electronic, plastic-like internals threaded with strands of red pulsing flesh. When the heart stops early Bucket Boy rips them free — Mordecai cannot, lest it count as an attack — and Donut pours Mordecai's Special Brew into the gushing chest. The naiad organs go in, Juice Box casts, they squirm like an octopus seeking attachments, and the Kua-tin Rebreather is grafted into the bronchial before a Water Breathing Scroll grows gills. The chest snaps shut and seals itself; Louis coughs water and wakes. Mongo eats the discarded organs and is awarded the kill.
