The Eighth Floor

floor eight · the card floor · the filler floor

The crawl's card-collecting floor — a filler level designed to milk the audience, which turned lethal anyway.

Story so far

The eighth floor is the subject of Tempest's school report and, in Quasar's opinion, "supposed to be a bullshit filler floor so the pricks running all this can drag it out as much as possible and collect as much tug money as they can". Its whole conceit was Monster Cards: collect creatures, fight with them, follow a great many rules.

It did not stay filler. Carl and Princess Donut were stranded in Cuba and built an absurd deck; the system nearly denied them a key; Quan Ch stole one and died for it; Tserendolgor died sadly and left Carl her flamethrower and her meatball; Sister Ines went insane, took up with the demon Amayon and was put down by Louis, who was then marked for death by the god Ysalte, who was in turn killed by the card-bound Paz. Something happened after that god's death that only the viewers saw, and Quasar says it will be a big deal later.

And it ended with Shi Maria inside Carl's chest. Quasar refuses to explain how anyone reached the stairwells at all, dismisses the homeless shelter as a non-event, and moves on to the ninth floor.

Appearance

Composed of Earth-replica regions — Cuba among them — populated by card-wielding monsters and the crawlers hunting them.

Role

The floor the entire recap covers: nominally filler, in practice the floor that reshaped the board for Faction Wars.

Relationships

Monster Cards — The floor's defining mechanic.
Cuba — The region where Carl and Donut were stranded.
Faction Wars — The ninth floor this one sets up, with protections stripped and ten teams seated.
