character

Darrow

Darrow of Lykos · the Reaper · ArchImperator · Morning Star · Tyr Morga

Darrow joins the Covenant from Io's ash, finds Cassius's body and private life aboard Archimedes, and sails home with an army, armada, and grief.

Story so far

Three weeks after Lysander's attack, Darrow emerges from the Raa bunkers with a recovering shoulder and completed memoirs for Pax. Plutus is an ash-gray winter where the Garter's colors once stood, but the Daughters' hearthcraft, Volga's search ships, and survivors prove that the destruction has not erased every possibility. Darrow accepts that the Rim's new idealism rests precariously on powerful people choosing better than their histories.

At the ash-table meeting, he helps turn that choice into the Covenant, accepting a ten-year alliance among Republic, Rim, Daughters, and Volk against the Society. He hears Aurae name their shared direction as growth toward the light, then says goodbye to the allies who will divide to protect the Rim and sail toward the Core. When Archimedes hails the Pandora, Darrow finds Pytha in the brig and Cassius's body in a funeral torpedo, cleaned but still marked by Lysander's violence. He mourns in Cassius's private room, watching Institute footage with Sevro and discovering the House Mars pendant and years of love for the pack. With no answer yet from Mars, he grips Pax's key and vows that he is coming home with an army and armada for Eo, Ragnar, Fitchner, Cassius, and all the dead.

Appearance

A tall, broad-shouldered man with golden eyes, rust-red hair, and a pale scar down the right side of his face. His healing shoulder remains painful; he wears dark battle gear amid ash and aboard a warship.

Role

Darrow is the returning ArchImperator who turns a fragile alliance into a final commitment to reach Mars, even as Cassius's death makes victory feel intolerably expensive.

Relationships

Cassius — Cassius is Darrow's dead brother, whose body, room, keepsakes, and Institute recordings make the loss newly concrete.
Sevro — Sevro embraces Darrow in grief, watches Cassius's old life with him, and will help forge their mismatched fleet into a force for Mars.
Volga — Volga signs the Covenant, acknowledges Cassius's kindness and beauty, and promises whatever aid Darrow needs against Lysander.
Aurae — Aurae tells Darrow that he gave Cassius the brotherly love he needed, offering the only comfort Darrow can accept.
Pax — Pax is Darrow's son and the recipient of his memoirs and silent promise that his father is finally coming home.
