Darrow

Darrow au Andromedus · The Reaper · Reap · Helldiver · Sunborn

The Reaper, honored with a Triumph and named Augustus's heir, then poisoned and captured as his world is butchered around him.

Story so far

Darrow is celebrated with a Triumph through Agea and, in private, named Nero au Augustus's heir—the ArchGovernor revealing he means to imprison the Reformers once Octavia au Lune falls, using Darrow to bind Mustang to him. Darrow kneels and plays the loyal son. But at the intimate Mask presentation the trap closes: Roque, the traitor, poisons him with a needle-ring and a kiss—'thus go liars, with a bloodydamn kiss.' The Jackal, allied with the Sovereign, Cassius, Aja, and Antonia, springs a massacre.

Paralyzed against a statue, Darrow watches Lorn au Arcos's throat cut, Victra shot down, and Augustus murdered by his own son, while Cassius steals the iron wolf ring from his finger and vows to hunt Sevro and Mustang. Then Roque tilts the ivory Mask box to his face: inside is Fitchner's—Ares's—severed head, mouth stuffed with grapes. The one hope of the rebellion is dead, and Darrow, captured and bound for dissection, knows they are undone.
