Story so far
In the weeks after Octavia's fall, Darrow watches the world change: Mustang Sovereign, dismantling the Color hierarchy; the Ash Lord retreated to Mercury; his own severed hand, retrieved from the Jackal's shuttle, reattached by Mickey and Virany. He accepts that this compromised victory—not the clean revolution of his youth—is the best mankind can hope for, and that the war is not truly over, with Romulus, the Ash Lord, and Gold warlords still abroad. He bids Cassius a brother's farewell as the Bellona leaves politics to raise Lysander away from the war, pressing Julian's ring back into his hand.
Then Mustang flies him to a wild Earth beach on the Pacific Rim—a place Eo would have loved—and, after confessing that her years of testing him were to see if he could build and be more than a killer, reveals her deepest secret: a ship lands bearing his mother, Kieran, Kavax au Telemanus, Sevro, and Victra—and a laughing golden-haired child. 'That is our son. His name is Pax.' Darrow, finally able to be both sword and father, is whole at last.
