character

Naomi Nagata

Safe aboard the lifted-off Roci, Naomi reunites with Holden, reveals Havelock was Miller's old Ceres partner, and gently helps him lay Miller to rest before falling back into each other.

Story so far

Naomi Nagata, her knees wrecked by planetary gravity, reunites with Holden as the Rocinante lifts off Ilus — collapsing into his embrace ('God, don't let go'), teasing that she 'rescued herself' and deflecting his question about how she turned Havelock. Back in her own gravity and command, she directs the surface unloading, then helps Holden with his hardest task: she takes manual control of a probe so he can fire Miller's last protomolecule remnant into Ilus's sun, asking no questions she can hear him not wanting. Afterward they make love and drift together, and she shares what she learned — that Havelock was Miller's partner on Ceres before any of them met him.

She gently probes Holden's choice to free Basia ('The frontier doesn't have laws, it has cops?'), accepts his vow never to leave her again, and sends him off to gloat over the captive Murtry with a kiss and an order to comb his hair.

Appearance

A tall, lean Belter woman, dark hair wild; here worn by heavy gravity and then relaxed in microgravity aboard ship, at ease and home with her partner.

Role

The Rocinante's XO; the partner reunited with Holden, easing him through Miller's funeral and back into their life together.

Relationships

Holden — Her partner she reunites with, helps lay Miller to rest, and who vows never to be parted from her again.
Havelock — The defector she reveals was Miller's old Ceres partner, a connection none of them had known.
Miller — The ghost whose remnant she fires into the sun for Holden without asking why.
