Story so far
Basia Merton braces to be taken away for his crimes as the Rocinante prepares to leave, but Holden simply thanks him — for helping repair the ship and for trying to rescue Naomi ('You're a brave man') — and walks off, telling him only to 'work hard' so there's a decent cup of coffee next time. Confused ('But I thought you had to take me to—'), Basia is left free: Holden has chosen not to break up his family, buying his account of the landing-pad bomb and trusting he won't set another. He stays on the ground with Lucia, Felcia, and Jacek, clustered together and gripping each other 'like their lives depended on unbroken contact,' among the founders of a rebuilt First Landing.
The welder who came to the story a broken, guilt-wracked bomber ends it forgiven, reunited with his family, and rooted in the fragile new colony.
