Story so far
Signet does not appear in this chapter, but her gift shapes it. In the last moments of the Butcher's Masquerade she gave Carl the body of Princess Lunette, her mother, intended one day to house Samantha.
Lunette had originally existed as a tattoo etched onto Signet soon after Edgar found her as a young, alone half-naiad, her own mother having died at the hands of high elves. When Carl dumps the body onto a cot he discovers it is a full naiad, complete with gills — which is exactly what Louis's Surgery needs. The body meant for Samantha is spent saving a flesh golem instead.
