Samantha

Sam

Burned nearly beyond recognition after her volcano trip, Samantha escapes the ninth floor and discovers a hole in her own memory.

Story so far

Screaming to be brought back the instant Emberus stopped touching her, Samantha was dropped with the Xistera and clunked to the ground, heavy and smoking — burned ten times worse than before, barely recognizable to Carl. She reported cheerfully that Emberus had meant to eat her, that he threw her into the volcano as planned, and that since he was blowing up the world they should probably go.

She thanked Louis for the loan of his body, then announced she now got to use his, floating up and blowing into his gills until he begged her to stop; Donut told her she looked like a piece of popcorn shrimp stuck to the bottom of an oven for two years and to be gentle with Louis, who had just gotten a divorce — news Samantha received with immediate interest. When Bautista mentioned Kimaris, she zipped over demanding the Kimaris Figure, insisting he was one of her best friends and the one who gave her the potion that let her carry her baby when she couldn't get pregnant — then stopped cold, unable to remember how or when they had met. She retreated into the Saferoom, leaving a black charred smear across the door.

Appearance

A blackened, smoking, heavily burned form barely recognizable as herself — Donut compares her to a piece of popcorn shrimp left on an oven floor for two years — trailing char onto everything she touches.

Role

The chapter's surviving volcano weapon, whose blank spot around Kimaris hints at tampered memory.

Relationships

Emberus — Carried and burned by him in the volcano; he intended to eat her.
Louis — Borrowed his body, then flirts with him on hearing of his divorce.
Kimaris — Claims he is one of her best friends and gave her a fertility potion, but cannot remember meeting him.
Donut — Teased by her about her burned appearance.
