The Barracks

Barracks building · The colorful barracks

Colorful blast-hardened barracks deliberately built on the hill's lip, whose roof becomes Carl's command post during the cyborg attack.

Story so far

The defenders deliberately placed the barracks building on the lip of the hill so attackers wouldn't have a straight shot at the castle's front door — a choice that also blocked the defenders' own line-of-sight to the bottom of the hill. Because of that, Florin demanded everyone with a crawler inventory carry either a Jump Scroll or a ladder at all times.

When the Doggie Door breach floods the hillside with Reavers, defenders flow around the colorful building on both sides while Carl scales it with Climb and Princess Donut leaps to it on Mongo. The roof becomes the battle's vantage point: mages stacking shields on Tina, summoned monster totems leaping down into the fight, the corpse of a Dreadnaught still sparking under its invisibility cloak, and Baroness Victory observing from a far corner. The building is still heavily blast-protected, and it shudders but holds when Tripper cooks off the enemy's satchel charges nearby.

Appearance

A garishly colorful, blast-warded barracks perched at the crest of the hill below the castle, its flat roof crowded with mages, monsters and corpses.

Role

Forward defensive structure and Carl's improvised command platform for the barracks-hill battle.

Relationships

Carl — Used its roof as his command vantage point
Florin — Spotted the line-of-sight flaw and mandated jump scrolls or ladders
