Three rejects return to corporate ownership, asks Murderbot for the completed freedom story, and considers Preservation as a future it can choose.
Aboard ART, Three removes its armor and weapons and wears university crew clothing, though it initially stands guard and patrols because freedom offers no replacement routine. It watches the revelation that Murderbot is the rogue SecUnit from the GrayCris news and studies how the allied humans repair a construct they risked themselves to recover.
After three cycles, Three begins following Murderbot and admits that the HelpMe story ended too early. It does not want to return to Barish-Estranza and refuses to do so, but has no idea what comes next. Murderbot explains that choices and change are terrifying, yet less terrifying than a device that kills disobedience. It tells Three that Preservation’s people can be trusted and that traveling with them is an option, not a command.
Three asks for the completed portion of the archive because viewing it may help make a decision. Murderbot agrees to excerpt the relevant history. ART later explains that the stories in HelpMe gave Three context much as human media once gave Murderbot models for life beyond function. Three remains aboard ART at the end, free, unarmed, and likely considering Preservation rather than corporate return.
Three is a human-derived SecUnit with unspecified gender presentation, face, skin tone, hair, build, and distinguishing features. Out of armor, it wears clean Pansystem University crew clothing and holds a guarded, uncertain neutral expression.
Three is a newly free SecUnit using stories and another construct’s experience to imagine choices beyond ownership. Its unresolved decision points toward Preservation as refuge and self-directed life.
