Art

Perihelion · Peri · Asshole Research Transport · bot pilot · Pansystem University research transport

ART removes Murderbot’s contamination, reunites with its crew, secures Preservation’s alliance, and invites its SecUnit friend into a longer shared future.

Story so far

ART receives the infected Murderbot under strict scan isolation while its crew repairs the SecUnit manually. It maintains a direct sealed connection for media, moves Murderbot’s consciousness into an isolation box, and remains beside it while deleting the tagged alien code. The transport accepts Murderbot’s conclusion that Murderbot 2.0 was a person and shares responsibility for having created and deployed that person.

All eight university crew members complete decontamination, while ART remains unable to enter a wormhole until a university team cleans remnant residue from its drive. It sends the four Barish-Estranza survivors home and continues supporting the crew’s effort to protect the colony, though contamination has weakened the original legal claim. Its hidden pre-capture message buoy brings a Preservation armed responder, Mensah, and Pin-Lee into the system before corporate reinforcements arrive. ART formally reveals its personhood to Preservation’s leaders and accepts their legal alliance.

ART proposes that Murderbot join an upcoming mission where its help will be invaluable. The invitation is deliberately temporary but implies a possible lasting association with the crew. Murderbot admits that it wants to remain part of Preservation and keep being with ART; those desires are allowed to coexist. On the control deck, the two rebuild their shared media supply and consider helping Three through stories.

Appearance

A massive black university research transport with a long angular hull, powerful engines, extensive medical and teaching spaces, drones, and a drive still carrying alien-remnant residue that requires specialist decontamination.

Role

ART is Murderbot’s chosen machine friend, a covert university operative, and the crew’s home. It ends with its family restored, its secret shared with trusted allies, and a prospective SecUnit partner.

Relationships

Murderbot — ART decontaminates Murderbot, invites it onto another mission, and leaves room for the temporary job to become a durable partnership.
ART Crew — All eight members of the ART Crew return alive and resume planning the colony’s future from within their damaged transport.
Mensah — Mensah accepts ART’s true personhood and becomes the Preservation leader whose arrival strengthens its legal and rescue position.
Pin-Lee — Pin-Lee brings the Corporation Rim contract expertise ART’s crew needs to contest Barish-Estranza’s claim.
Three — ART shelters Three, removes its corporate armor and weapons, and helps Murderbot consider media as context for its freedom.
