A traitor Howler of House Mars who sold out Darrow's ambush, captured and repentant—murdered by Antonia before she can turn informant.
Thistle is a Gold of House Mars and one of Sevro's original Howlers, who at the Institute cut Antonia down when the Jackal crucified her. Somewhere along the way she betrayed the Rising, selling out an ambush that should have killed Darrow—and the Howlers who were meant to be there with him—and dyed her hair and eyes a brighter gold to fit in among the Boneriders. Captured with Antonia in the Belt, she is caged in the adjacent cell, wracked with guilt: she begs Darrow to tell Sevro she is sorry, and he coldly tells her he could forgive her betrayal of him, but not of Sevro and the Howlers who loved her.
Resolved at last to help, she turns to the cell camera to confess the Jackal's plans—only for Antonia, unwilling to lose her sole value as an informant, to seize her hair through the bars and cave in her skull. The Sons find her Institute Howler-cloak hidden under a false bottom in her quarters; Sevro grieves the friend beneath the traitor, and Pebble bids her 'Howl on, little Thistle.'
A short, dark-faced Gold with a sharp face and a House Mars scar, her curly hair and eyes artificially lightened to a brighter gold; small beside the towering Antonia.
A repentant traitor Howler of House Mars; the friend-turned-betrayer murdered by Antonia before she can give up the Jackal's secrets.
