character

Antonia

Antonia au Severus-Julii · Antonia au Julii

Craving a hero's reward, Antonia is instead tried for the cowardice that lost Ilium and strangled to death by Aja on the Sovereign's order.

Story so far

Antonia arrives in Octavia's bunker expecting glory for delivering the Reaper, only to find her lover the Jackal cold—refusing even to fix her sister-ruined face, telling her scars are her story—and the Sovereign turning on her. Octavia tries her for the Ilium disaster: others transmitted their battle analytics proving Antonia abandoned Roque mid-battle and fled to save herself, throwing his formation to chaos and losing the war. Antonia bluffs and slanders the dead Poet as the true failure, demanding her accusers face her in the Bleeding Place, but the Jackal will not save her—'I'd rather have the loyalty of a dog than that of a coward'—and Octavia formally condemns her for treason and dereliction of duty.

Begging for mercy and finding none, meeting Darrow's eyes and reading 'reap what you sow,' she is strangled slowly by Aja, taking a full minute to die before her neck is snapped—her death a reckoning for Victra, Lea, Thistle, and all she sacrificed to save herself.

Appearance

A tall Gold, her once-famous beauty ruined by Victra's beating into a swollen, misshapen face; smoldering eyes wet with terror at the end, prisoner-clad.

Role

Antagonist meeting her end; the coward of Ilium executed by the very Society she served for losing its greatest battle.
