Preservation Station

the station

Preservation’s open, communal orbital station becomes the unlikely scene of an unidentified human’s murder.

Story so far

Preservation Station is an orbital home and transit hub where residential and transient spaces mingle, corridors carry inherited names, and historic graffiti is preserved rather than scrubbed away. Its public mall opens into broad passages such as the Trans Lateral Bypass, with high ceilings projecting views of the planet and plant biomes screening small businesses. Violent crime is so rare that the station’s baseline murder threat is only seven percent, and security normally concentrates on accidents, intoxicated aggression, and hazardous cargo near the port.

That complacent safety is shattered when an unidentified human is found dead in a quiet junction between residential and work areas, curled around a broken feed interface. The council closes the port and deploys the armed responder to prevent any vessel from leaving. The station’s ordinary systems immediately show strain: Medical prioritizes school health checks over scanning a confirmed corpse, and local security has no ready homicide procedure.

Appearance

A large orbital station of silver-blue paneled corridors, historic graffiti, high arched ceilings with planetary holo views, communal residential spaces, shops, plant biomes, and an active port.

Role

Preservation Station is both the murder scene and the sheltered society whose institutions are being tested by unfamiliar violence.

Relationships

Preservation AllianceBk 5 — The Preservation Alliance governs and inhabits the station according to strong protections for bodily autonomy and labor rights.
Preservation Station Security — Preservation Station Security maintains its safety but has little experience with deliberate killing.
Murderbot — Murderbot lives uneasily within the station and sees the investigation as both a threat assessment and a test of belonging.
