A safety-focused station department confronts its first murder with limited forensic resources and reluctant outside expertise.
Preservation Station Security is designed for a peaceful community. Its officers respond to accidents, inspect cargo for biological hazards, maintain safety equipment, and manage occasional port aggression, but they do not routinely patrol outside the port and have no experience with corporate attacks. The unidentified body in a quiet mall junction therefore leaves the department dependent on delayed Medical equipment, visitor logs, and a crude identity search.
Under Senior Officer Indah, Security seals the scene while the council closes the port and deploys the responder. Dr. Mensah pushes the department to retain Murderbot as a paid consultant, pairing the station’s legal authority and local access with the SecUnit’s forensic scans, corporate threat experience, and drones. The arrangement begins in open mutual distrust.
The department occupies the station through uniformed officers, cargo technicians, incident equipment, feed access, and station bots rather than a single distinctive headquarters.
Station Security is the official investigative body and the institution whose competence Murderbot must supplement without taking over.
