Syndicate

the Syndicate

Interstellar authority whose rules on journalistic freedom Odette invokes against Borant's new censorship.

Story so far

The Syndicate's symbol is one of several Carl has already sketched onto his scratchpad, part of a growing conviction that symbology matters to the mudskippers and therefore matters to the crawl and to the floors ahead. He intends to add a whole symbols section to the Dungeon Anarchist's Cookbook, which lacks one.

Its authority surfaces directly when Odette confronts Loita over the interview blackout, citing the Syndicate's rules regarding a journalist's right to ask and answer during interviews. Loita counters with contract amendments made when Katia Grim was added to the show, and the argument devolves into screaming before ending in laughter. The exchange establishes that Borant's control over what crawlers hear is bounded, at least on paper, by Syndicate law.

Role

Governing body whose broadcast and journalism rules constrain what Borant may censor.

Relationships

Odette — Journalist who invokes its protections against censorship.
