Pasty Inferno

the Maurice quest

A mandatory jungle-heat quest, sprung by Great Rusty's death, to kill the northern Ginger chieftain Maurice before the race can be finished.

Story so far

Pasty Inferno is a mandatory quest that fires the instant Princess Donut kills the southern chieftain Great Rusty and the truck runs over his corpse. With the southern tribe leaderless, the northern chieftain Maurice will move in unchecked, growing powerful enough to march on Upano and devour everyone inside. The quest — sardonically framed by the AI as a lesson about how unchecked power means 'everybody loses' — demands the party find and kill the version of Maurice on their track, rewarding the victor with 'the contents of Maurice's cook pot.' It is non-optional: the race cannot be finished until Maurice is dead.

Its sudden appearance infuriates Carl, who blames Dr. Metcalf for routing them into a quest he swore the path avoided — the navigator retorting that the quest only spawned because 'the cat blew up the fat guy.'
