The lost jungle city and mandatory Heat Four pit stop, its garages the rearranged houses of all three combined heats.
Upano is the lost jungle city serving as the single mandatory refueling pit stop on Heat Four's ~99-km cannibal jungle trail. Reached under a garishly out-of-place flashing neon 'Pit Stop' arch, its wide suburban street is lined with the familiar cul-de-sac houses — but rearranged into one long row holding the garages of all three combined heats, twenty-four homes in all (two boarded up for teams already lost). Beyond the small city the setting turns incongruous: to the east rises a towering stack of black tubes going up and up, opposite a range of cliffs, while ahead Upano seems to sprawl on endlessly.
Pit-stop rules are harsh: a two-hour timer starts the moment a team parks; garage doors may not be closed (leaving mechanics like Hedy exposed); and there is no safe-room access. Carl gauges his standing by which garage doors have opened — team Sparkles first, then the Lady Dominators and Osvaldo's gnu, putting the party fourth. It is here, on Upano's open street, that the mercenary Finley and his squad are run down and killed by One Fine Pig's APV.
