NFC nonprofit dedicated to helping former crawlers navigate the universe after release from the dungeon.
Tipid describes the Crawler Project to Carl and Donut as an NFC organization founded by Doctor Porthus Hu and devoted to helping released crawlers survive the universe that chewed them up. Its campaigning was instrumental in passing multiple laws protecting crawlers on release: every newly released crawler is now automatically a citizen of the Syndicate with access to the inner system primary zone, free healthcare, and guaranteed housing. None of that existed when Tipid himself got out, and Mistress Tiatha sourly notes the citizenship perk applies only to new crawlers while the old guard will still be bled dry on taxes and quietly kept out of rich home systems.
The project's activism eventually drew official retaliation. The incident involving Paulie, a residual walking around in the body of a homeless man in a Florida shelter, was one of several actions that pushed authorities into cracking down on the nonprofit and accusing it of being a terrorist organization, forcing its members to scatter. Doctor Hu's whereabouts are unknown even to Tipid, but it was Hu who suggested refurbishing a garbage freighter into a passenger liner and put out the call that brought over 50,000 former crawlers back into the dungeon for Faction Wars.
