Hup, Hup, Hup War Chant

the hup chant · the war chant

Spontaneous camp-wide chant started by Penn that becomes the Princess Posse's war cry for Carl.

Story so far

When someone points at the arriving crawlers and shouts, every activity in The Princess Posse Base Camp stops and hundreds of pairs of eyes turn on Carl. Penn drops his steel beam, hugs and kisses Carl, then begins rhythmically shouting "hup, hup, hup" while pumping his fist in the air. One person joins, then everyone, until thousands of humans, Skyfowl, Crocodilians, Bune, and Yenk are pumping fists and wings and chanting in rhythm like a crowd at a concert or a football game.

Carl finds it deafening and, more than that, terrifying — the ground shakes — yet it fills him with a deep well of pride, hope, and power even as he reckons that in less than three days they will be waist deep in blood and many of them dead. Tipid tries to speak over the noise, fails, and switches to chat: "This is for you. This is what you built." Then, as abruptly as it started, the chant ends and everyone goes back to work.
