Tracy

Tracy’s legacy includes April and Remy’s preservation attempt and a letter apologizing for her role while asking survivors to seek revenge.

Story so far

April remembers Tracy running away from home to join the army, but is uncertain which intelligence agency she later became involved with. Tracy is John’s colleague, with whom he had an affair in Milan. While visiting his hotel room, she discovered his apocalypse instructions. She urged him to bring his family to Colorado before the catastrophe, claimed that her group could guarantee his safety, and said she had known Professor Karpov for years. She predicted that John would survive only five minutes outside on his own.

After John fell asleep, Tracy secretly recorded every page of his copy of The Order; that discovery led her to originate The Founders. She used most of her invitations to recruit soldiers for revenge on those responsible for the catastrophe, while bringing her father, sister and brother-in-law to the mountain shelter under the pretense of a weeklong camping trip. She told her family that the government had acted first to control an inevitable catastrophe, that they had been inoculated during the bus journey, and that they would need to remain sheltered for six months to a year. She waited for John until the shelter doors had to close, then assumed his absence meant he had gone to Atlanta.

When faced with choosing a small surviving group, Tracy recognized that this repeated the reasoning of the people who had destroyed the world. She insisted that Dmitry consult the founders before programming any killing machines. Rather than join the fifteen people intended to survive through generations, she traded her place for an attempt to preserve April and Remy in cryogenic storage. She left them instructions, supplies and an apology, then silently said farewell to her father before moving the couple into storage. Her letter now explains her role in events surrounding the end of the world and apologizes. It says the founders miscalculated how long the air would remain unsafe and that their supplies could sustain only fifteen people through the isolation period. Tracy marked a location outside Atlanta and asked survivors to seek revenge there.
