Amos is the mechanic and muscle of the ice-hauler Canterbury, a man of few and direct words who reads a wrecked ship by its damage. Boarding the derelict Scopuli with Holden's salvage team, it is Amos who identifies that the hull was opened by a breaching charge rather than a torpedo, that the reactor was shut down by hand through proper procedures rather than killed by the blast, and that the absence of bodies and the open pressure doors mean this was no simple pirate job. Keeping his gun out on Holden's order, he cuts the Scopuli's data core free to carry home as evidence.
Like the rest of the boarding party — Naomi, Alex, and Shed — Amos survives only because he is aboard the shuttle Knight when a stealthed warship destroys the Canterbury with everyone still on it.
