Naomi

Sharp, loyal Belter engineer of the Canterbury, the steady technical heart of its salvage crew.

Story so far

Naomi is the engineer aboard the ice-hauler Canterbury, the crew member who knows the old barge's failing systems intimately and authors the retrofit proposal (the "PRP") to overhaul the ship before it falls apart — a fix the company would rather avoid by quietly paying off "a few widows." Practical and dry-humored, she calls the salvage shuttle Knight "one leaky lifeboat" yet trusts it to cross fifty thousand clicks of vacuum. When Holden is made acting XO for the Scopuli salvage, Naomi joins the boarding team, reading the derelict's sensor returns — a shut-down but unleaked reactor, a hull breach from a breaching charge rather than a torpedo — with cool competence.

A Belter by build and bearing, she moves easily between the ship's factions and survives the destruction of the Canterbury only because she is aboard the Knight when the stealth warship nukes her home ship and everyone left on it.

Role

Engineer of the ice-hauler Canterbury and a member of the Knight salvage crew; one of the five survivors of the Cant's destruction.

Relationships

Holden — The Cant's second officer she crews alongside; she vouches for the ship's worth and follows him onto the Scopuli during the doomed salvage run.
Amos — A fellow Canterbury crewmate on the Knight boarding team, with whom she shares the dangerous work aboard the derelict.
Canterbury — The aging ice-hauler whose systems she keeps alive and whose overhaul she fought for, only to watch it nuked from the safety of the Knight.
