Target Contact

targetContact · surface contact · off-ship contact · contaminated human host

Target Contact proves to be an unnaturally preserved human host, pursues Murderbot after the network purge, and is destroyed by ART’s pathfinder.

Story so far

Target Contact first communicates from the planet through the explorer’s Target Control, calls Murderbot 2.0 a software ghost, and reveals that embodied Murderbot has been captured. The copy follows its connection into the buried installation.

The contact’s physical body lies in the central-system chamber, wrapped in white crystalline growth that emerges from its ears and mouth. Its light-tan skin is marked blue-white, its blue eyes remain open and aware, and it shows no ordinary decomposition despite having lain there for months or years. Repeated energy fire and older weapon scars fail to damage the alien-protected tissue.

After Murderbot destroys Central and Target Control System, Target Contact rises and charges. It shrugs off the SecUnit’s makeshift club and Three’s explosive bolts, pursuing them through the installation until Three collapses part of a corridor. The host reaches the surface plaza just as Arada’s shuttle extracts both SecUnits. ART detonates the waiting pathfinder, and reports Target Contact offline.

Appearance

An adult human of unspecified gender and build with light-tan skin mottled blue-white and unblinking blue eyes, wrapped in grainy white crystalline growth emerging from the ears and mouth and forming an armor-like protective coating.

Role

Target Contact is the durable human host and physical extension of the colony’s control network. Its destruction removes the pursuer capable of surviving the central purge.
