A corporate SecUnit obeys a stand-down order and is abandoned beyond contract range, where its governor module kills the rescuer it might have become.
SecUnit 2 belongs to the three-unit security complement aboard the Barish-Estranza Explorer. It accompanies the armed contact party onto the colony Space Dock but is ordered by a compromised client to stand down and freeze when gray intruders return from the planet. The intruders leave it behind with dead clients because its governor module makes resistance impossible.
Once the explorer carries its surviving clients beyond the contract’s distance limit, the governor module destroys SecUnit 2’s organic systems. Murderbot finds the armored body near the drop-box access and explains the irrational cruelty to its human companions: ownership kills the person best equipped to rescue the captives.
Inside the explorer, SecUnit 3 asks Murderbot’s copied consciousness for news of the missing unit. Murderbot 2.0 tells the truth, using SecUnit 2’s fate as both a warning and part of its case for disabling the survivor’s governor module.
SecUnit 2 was a human-derived construct in unfamiliar full corporate armor. Its face, gender presentation, skin tone, hair, and build remain hidden; its canonical look is the intact armored guard before governor-module enforcement.
SecUnit 2 is the clearest casualty of Barish-Estranza’s ownership system. Its preventable death demonstrates why an obedient corporate SecUnit cannot save anyone once hostile humans obtain command authority.
