character

Alex Kamal

Alex

Back with the crew on Luna, Alex senses that trauma has changed Naomi and Amos, then watches their fragile ordinary closeness return after Avasarala's demand.

Story so far

Alex Kamal is home with the Rocinante crew on Luna, sharing beer and familiar conversation with Amos Burton while Naomi Nagata rests after her rescue. The reunion gives him profound relief, but he notices that Amos seems abstracted and Naomi is isolated in medical debriefings. He fears that the family's old shape has been altered by wounds no one has yet named.

Alex accompanies Amos to the Rocinante and accidentally discovers Clarissa Mao hidden in a cargo crate. Her presence horrifies him because she is no longer a formally guarded prisoner, and he insists that James Holden must be told. In Avasarala's briefing, Alex watches Naomi negotiate immunity while the governments ask the crew to help form an anti-Free Navy task force. He finds hope in the group walking away together—Holden and Naomi holding hands, Bobbie and Amos joking—because ordinary companionship still survives the system's collapse.

Appearance

An adult Martian man with dark hair, a warm expressive face, and an easy pilot's build, wearing relaxed shipboard clothes on Luna; relief at reunion is tempered by anxious watchfulness.

Role

Alex is the crew's gentle conscience, protecting their ordinary bonds even when what he sees makes him uneasy.

Relationships

Clarissa Mao — Clarissa Mao's sudden presence aboard the Rocinante alarms Alex, who believes Holden must be told before Amos treats her as crew.
Naomi Nagata — Naomi Nagata worries Alex by sleeping and withdrawing after rescue, though he sees a measure of hope when she reconnects with Holden.
Amos Burton — Amos Burton is familiar enough to comfort Alex, but changed enough that Alex senses a troubling distance beneath their old rhythm.
