character

Dio

Eo's sister, now Kieran's partner and a young mother, whose face is a tender echo of Darrow's martyred wife.

Story so far

Dio is the younger sister of Eo, Darrow's martyred wife, and now lives at Tinos as Kieran's partner and the mother of their first child. When Darrow first sees her breastfeeding, he mistakes her for Eo—she has the same heart-shaped face and frizzing hair, but softer, more delicate, more delicacy than fire. Warm and gracious, she waves off his stricken apology as the kindest thing he could say, and presses her rust-haired baby into his lap, drawing the first easy joy from him since his imprisonment.

Her union with Kieran carries the family forward where Darrow and Eo's storm could not last.

Appearance

A small woman of twenty with a heart-shaped face and a thick, tangled mess of hair that frizzes in humidity, echoing her sister Eo; smaller-eyed and elfin-nosed, gentle rather than fierce.

Role

Eo's sister and Kieran's partner; a tender presence linking Darrow to his lost wife and to the future.

Relationships

Kieran — Her partner and father of her first child, building a family with her at Tinos.
Darrow — Her brother-in-law, whom she comforts and gently reconnects to joy through her baby.
EoBk 2 — Her martyred sister, whose face and hair she echoes, stirring Darrow's grief and hope.
