The giant, warmhearted Telemanus patriarch bids Darrow a tearful farewell before Ilium, claiming him as family and promising a fishing trip on Mars.
Kavax au Telemanus, the towering, absent-minded patriarch whose son Pax died shielding Darrow at the Institute, remains the Rising's staunchest open Gold ally. On the eve of Ilium he takes his farewell in the hangar of Mustang's flagship, lifting Mustang like a doll to kiss her head, then crushing Darrow into a hug. When Darrow thanks him for guarding his friends though he is 'not even one of you,' Kavax calls him a fool—'My boy made you one of us.
She makes you one of us'—and grants his own blessing. His fox Sophocles digs a watermelon jellybean, slipped by his daughter Thraxa, from Darrow's armor, delighting the big man, who takes it as the fox's benediction too. He extracts a promise: when the war is won, he and Darrow will sit by the river on his Mars estate, fish, and get drunk together.
A giant, ruddy-faced Gold with a booming laugh and a toothy grin, his shoulder a perch for his pet fox Sophocles; warm, scatterbrained, and immovably devoted.
The Telemanus patriarch and Darrow's fiercest Gold protector; the tender giant who claims Darrow as family before sailing to the battle of Ilium.
