Mordecai

Rat-like guildmaster of the Tutorial Guild, a shapeshifting Changeling on his last crawl who bends the rules to help Carl survive.

Story so far

Mordecai runs the Tutorial Guild Hall as a Level 50 Rat Hooligan, a Non-Combatant NPC who slept through the dungeon's opening and only admits crawlers when the rules allow. A former crawler who reached floor 11 before choosing guildmaster life, he activates Carl's Dimensional Inventory, gifts a Standard Healing Potion, and coaches Carl on gear and an unarmed monk build, urging him to feed Donut the Enhanced Pet Biscuit. He drip-feeds forbidden knowledge: boss hierarchies, loot rules, broadcast and safe-room mechanics, and cryptic warnings about exits, gods, and deeper, less-sympathetic mobs.

Born a skyfowl, he's a Changeling who morphs into a current-floor mob whenever his hall moves, shifting from Rat Hooligan to the obsidian bear-like Bugaboo. He keeps an urn of his mother's ashes and a framed photo of his crawler brother. Bound by a kua-tin indentureship, this is his final tour; the season only counts if a crawler reaches floor four. He's now cleared to brief Carl and Donut on third-floor race/class selection and pet bonding for Mongo — and reacts with raw hatred toward Odette, who once pushed him too hard and made him pay dearly, angrily refusing her job offer.

Appearance

A bearded rat-like creature slightly taller than goblins; as a Changeling he reshapes into a current-floor mob, including a seven-foot obsidian bear-like Bugaboo with owlish eyes and thin limbs.

Role

Guildmaster and registered guide of the Tutorial Guild, a Non-Combatant NPC who trains, analyzes, and covertly advises crawlers.
