Dwarven Automaton

Dwarven Industrial Light-Duty Automaton · dwarven robot · contraption

Bulldozer-sized dormant dwarven work-robots sealed in warehouse rooms across the train floor — an unexplained recurring mystery.

Story so far

Dwarven Industrial Light-Duty Automatons are hulking, black-and-silver, Transformer-like robots Carl's party finds sitting dormant ('Sleep Mode,' no map dots) in a warehouse behind Banshee-Station-116. The system describes them as industrial workhorses for simple tasks like pushing ore bins up from the depths — 'not designed for fighting,' though the tooltip cheerfully notes a crawler would stand no chance against them. Katia-Grim reports that Hekla and Eva found an identical two-robot room in another warren, marking them as a floor-wide pattern.

Suspecting a Control-Sigil guards them, Carl blows the inert pair apart with three sticks of hobgoblin dynamite, harvesting nearly 15 tons of scrap metal, fried cogs, and two damaged dwarven batteries for his crafting bench — while the deeper question of why they're everywhere goes unanswered.

Appearance

Bulldozer-sized lumpy blocks of black and silver metal that unfold into arms and legs; visibly venting hot exhaust when powered, otherwise mistaken for wall indentations.

Role

A recurring, deliberately-placed machine mystery on the train floor — and a rich source of crafting scrap when destroyed.

Relationships

Carl — Scraps a dormant pair for tons of crafting metal while puzzling over their purpose.
Control Sigil — A gating glyph Carl suspects is tied to the robot rooms.
Katia Grim — Learns from Hekla and Eva that identical robot rooms exist elsewhere.
