Quemada

Quemada the fire fairy · Que

The Emberus-worshipping fire-fairy mercenary, shattered into a suicidal existential panic after meeting the fully awakened Akuma.

Story so far

Quemada, the level-96 fire fairy and protector of Team Helix, comes apart on the jungle heat. Sent by her god Emberus to aid the fellow-worshipper Carl on the doomed mission to kill Hellik, she instead falls silent and depressed after overhearing the fully awakened war mage Akuma reveal the dungeon's reused, manufactured nature — NPCs always react strangely to their first contact with a fully awakened one. Mid-race her dread erupts into a full-blown panic attack: she sobs that she no longer knows what is real, begs to know whether she, Carl, or anything matters, wails 'we've been doing this over and over,' and turns suicidal, pleading to 'end it all' and asking what she can burn.

It emerges she has a panic disorder, once managed by her squad's ice fairy Helado (killed by the chain demon Genesis) — after whose death she killed one of the squad's own clients. Her badger squadmate Finley, with surprising gentleness, finally casts Unconscious on her and lays her in the truck's sink. Her faith in Emberus is now cracking as badly as her grip on reality.

Appearance

A fire fairy larger than most, roughly cat-sized, wreathed in heat with smoke wings, now sobbing and radiating panic-driven warmth hot enough to bake the truck cabin.

Role

The party's fire-fairy mercenary, whose panic disorder and shattered faith spiral into a suicidal crisis mid-race.
