A skink former crawler and 16th-edition cookbook author, still alive, who secretly built the Pineapple Cabaret oasis.
Herot is a skink — a former crawler and the author of the sixteenth edition of the Dungeon Anarchist's Cookbook — revealed by Akuma to be still alive, decades or centuries after their crawl. Deeply concerned with the well-being of mobs and NPCs, Herot developed the 'Worn Path Method,' a process that helps awakened mobs realize their true nature, and worked out how the dungeon's reusable modular framework recycles and reuses mobs. Seasons ago Herot and a second former crawler, Menerva, persuaded a showrunner to let them build the never-visited seventeenth floor — and secretly attached to it a hidden pocket dimension, the Pineapple Cabaret, an oasis where mobs and NPCs could permanently escape the horrors of the crawl.
The approving showrunner was murdered soon after, their paperwork never transferred, leaving Herot and Menerva forgotten 'ghosts in the system,' invisible, accumulating no indenture hours, free to run their secret sanctuary each season. Learning Herot is alive spikes Carl's pride and view counter; the skink is described as brilliant, endlessly knowledgeable about the dungeon's workings — even more than the AI — and, per Akuma, an insufferably annoying fucker.
A skink (small reptilian humanoid); described only secondhand — no direct physical detail given in these chapters.
The living skink cookbook-author who built the Pineapple Cabaret oasis and understands the dungeon better than anyone.
