Ex-Coast Guardsman Carl and his talking cat Princess Donut have, across four floors of Borant's galaxy-broadcast dungeon beneath ruined Earth, risen to the top of the rankings. On this desert fifth floor they and Katia liberated all four quadrants, evacuated roughly 1,500 crawlers with the Gate of the Feral Gods, and freed the crawler Chris from the parasite Maggie. Katia has departed to shield Eva's scattered former 'daughters,' and Carl serves the fire god Emberus.
The true plan, hidden even from Borant, now springs. Rather than loose a god on the ninth floor, Carl aims the real gate from the shark-filled water quadrant straight into the faction market at the heart of Larracos, drowning it in ocean water, timed bombs, concierge sharks, and pain-amplifier jellyfish. Since destroyed NPC shopkeepers and mercenaries cannot be replaced, this guts the factions' ability to arm their armies before the ninth-floor war — a devastating economic strike that Zev, feigning outrage, confirms is spiraling the whole season out of Borant's control. Chris joins Carl's party; Juice Box flies off to Larracos carrying the promise that Carl will keep saving her people. Now the number-one crawler with a doubled million-gold bounty, Carl descends the stairs vowing to hunt and break every tourist who comes for him. The epilogue widens the lens: Carl's shadowy backers, Dr. Hu and Porthus of the Pacifist Action Network, go all-in on him, betting his defiance recruits followers even if he dies. And on frozen, ruined Earth, illegal bounty trackers hunt survivors on the season's 'Walk-On List' — snaring Carl's ex-girlfriend Bea and her cat, delivering her not to Borant but to the producer Odette, who has 'a much better use' for her. The fifth floor is conquered; the war below awaits.
