Now fully self-aware, Juice Box carries the real Gate through to flooded Larracos to awaken her people — and reveals she's in love with and engaged to Louis.
Juice Box, now fully awakened to being an NPC (thanks to Louis), becomes central to Carl's endgame. She questions the point of dying for a strike against immortal masters, but agrees to help in exchange for Carl's promise to ferry her changeling people down every floor. When the plan changes — Carl keeps the real Gate rather than send a god to Larracos — he sends her instead: fly as a bird over the lip and dive into the water as the Gate opens, ride it through to the flooded ninth-floor city Larracos, hide, and tell the survivors what they really are before Carl arrives.
She agrees, then stuns him with the floor's most astonishing revelation: she and Louis are in love and getting married. Kissing his cheek, she extracts his promise to protect her people and 'keep him safe, too,' and rockets away as a skyfowl.
A changeling shifting between human, buzz-ard, turtle, and skyfowl forms; frazzled but resolute in her final moments here.
The awakened changeling sent through the Gate to awaken her people in Larracos — and Louis's secret fiancee.
