Valtay

Gondii · Brain worms

Body-snatching brain-worms — the Gondii — who reanimate the freshly dead and run their bodies for centuries off stolen memories.

Story so far

Prompted by Carl, Mordecai explains the Valtay: not shapeshifters but a body-snatching creature called a Gondii, a brain-worm that reactivates a corpse if it enters within hours of death, reading the old memories and keeping the body running for centuries. He distinguishes them from Intellect Hunters (who body-hop as their hosts rot) and the more insidious Infiltrators — none of which are true shapeshifters like Juice Box or doppelgangers like Katia Grim. The Valtay Corp has loomed over the game's future since the third floor.

Appearance

Parasitic brain-worms inhabiting reanimated corpses, indistinguishable from their living hosts.

Role

A looming corporate/parasitic power of body-snatching worms, weighing on Carl's mind.

Relationships

Mordecai — Explains their Gondii nature to Carl.
Infiltrator — A more insidious body-snatching cousin he contrasts them with.
