Rocinante engineer who holds the ship and her faith in Holden, kills to protect the crew, and traces the enemy.
Naomi Nagata is the engineer of the gunship Rocinante, and in the Eros crisis her steadiness and loyalty become the crew's spine. With Holden trapped in the station's protomolecule death-experiment and the radiation clock running, the crew reaches the ship — but Naomi refuses to leave without him. Against Alex and the rescued passengers urging immediate escape, and even at the point of a gun, she holds the line: "You said wait, so we wait, Boss," Amos tells her, the crew deferring to her judgment as Holden once deferred to none. "Holden wouldn't do that to us," she insists when warned the returning survivors may be infected — her faith in him absolute.
When the moment demands it, she acts without flinching: as the survivors fight to the docks, Naomi shoots Sematimba, Miller's mentor turned CPM enforcer, to protect the crew. Her faith is rewarded — Holden makes it back, telling her "you waited," and she answers, "knew I was right about you," handing him back command of a job she calls "a shit job." As the Rocinante blasts clear of the sealed station, Naomi is among those who trace the experiment's data uplink to the conspirators' station, Thoth — a fix on the people behind the slaughter of Julie Mao, the Canterbury, the Donnager, and all of Eros.
Engineer of the Rocinante, who holds the ship for Holden, kills to defend the crew, and helps trace the enemy to Thoth station.
