Brandon's mute, grief-warped Igneous brother, now killing crawlers — he murders Frank Q at the Desperado Club and walks out.
Chris Andrews is Brandon An's quiet younger brother, an Igneous lava-rock crawler whose race change soured him into a violent loner. On The Iron Tangle he crosses a line: after Carl and Princess Donut leave the Desperado Club, Chris — the crawler The Sledge saw talking to the drunken, ruined Frank Q — picks a fight and kills Frank outright, then walks calmly out, earning a club ban. Carl is shaken: it doesn't match the Chris he knew, but Imani and Elle McGib have warned he's changed.
He keeps re-reading Brandon's dying message about his brother ("Tell him I love him... the most important part"), unable to reconcile it with the mute killer Chris has become. Chris still won't talk to anyone, looming near the Meadow Lark crew as a grief-warped wild card.
A crawler of the Igneous race — a body of dark lava rock riddled with little glowing molten holes, strong and stony; careful, near-silent, sparing with words.
A grief-warped, mute wild card who has begun killing crawlers, starting with Frank Q.
