The Dts

delirium tremens · withdrawal symptoms · the three stages

A three-stage withdrawal affliction that seizes mobs when their train stops coming, making them stronger and mindless.

Story so far

The DTs are a floor-wide affliction on The Iron Tangle: when a line's train stops running — as the purple line's has after Quan Ch and others wreck the engines — the mobs left stranded in that neighborhood begin to suffer withdrawal, progressing through three stages marked by a red exclamation point overhead. Elle McGib and Imani warn Carl that transformed monsters become far more powerful. At stage two, a mob's strength doubles and any intelligent mob loses the ability to speak or reason, attacking anything not similarly afflicted.

Critically, sick mobs are no longer confined to their neighborhoods: they flood the supposedly safe transit stations, as the babababoons do, changing the calculus of every terminal on the floor.

Appearance

A red exclamation-point buff icon over an afflicted mob; visible symptoms of frenzy, vomiting, and mindless aggression escalating across three stages.

Role

A world mechanic that destabilizes the floor as trains stop, pushing stronger, mindless mobs into the transit stations.

Relationships

Babababoon — The first mob the party sees fully consumed by stage-two DTs.
Quan Ch — His train-wrecking is a chief cause of the stalled lines that trigger the DTs.
