The alien-remnant crisis survives not as an active attack but as damaged systems, unresolved ruins, and flashbacks capable of disabling Murderbot.
Hazardous alien remnants can rewrite biology and machine code without hostile intention. On the lost-colony world they corrupted neural tissue and medical scans, consumed part of AdaCol1, created Target Control, and drove colonists and machines toward violent escape until Murderbot and its allies destroyed the central system.
No contamination is yet detected in the polar installation, but its architecture triggers a new manifestation in Murderbot: an inaccurate memory assembled from real details produces sudden performance collapse. A major episode previously forced a restart in ART's medical bay; a shorter recurrence freezes Murderbot when AdaCol2 initiates contact. ART's containment protocols prevent the ancient transmission from reaching the shuttle, then establish that the signal itself is not viral, leaving psychological trauma rather than renewed infection as the immediate cause.
It has no single form; its current evidence is indirect—dead systems, buried ruins, extreme containment procedures, and a construct's vivid false memory of being physically consumed.
Alien-remnant contamination remains both a possible environmental danger and the source of a disabling post-crisis injury no existing medicine understands.
