Story so far
Murderbot entered the lost-colony aftermath physically repaired but mentally destabilized by alien-remnant trauma and the death of Murderbot 2.0. Its false-memory flashbacks made it fear that it was broken and disposable. When the hidden polar settlement became the target of Barish-Estranza, Murderbot created a documentary that made corporate indenture emotionally visible, stopped a violent abduction, gave governed SecUnits the tools to choose freedom, and brought its humans home alive.
Seven days later, the colonists own their planet, evacuation and research negotiations are underway, and ART is being repaired. Murderbot supplies Ratthi and Arada with data for a future free-SecUnit trauma program but refuses to help design treatment while still working through its own. It recognizes that it needs recovery, plans to contact Dr. Bharadwaj, and has not yet opened ART's treatment file, but no longer equates relapse with uselessness. It coaches Three toward interests without conscription and takes responsibility for the contaminated agricultural bots. Most importantly, it decides for real which ship it will be on when the mission ends: it asks ART where they are going next.
Appearance
A lean, androgynous human-derived construct with generic features, fine eyebrows, deliberately lengthened fluffy short dark hair, and a neck data port, repaired into clean dark-blue security clothing and sturdy boots.
Role
Murderbot is the book's protector, storyteller, and recovering survivor, ending with a freely chosen commitment to continue traveling beside ART.
Relationships
ART — ART is Murderbot's chosen ship, closest friend, and trauma-care provider; Murderbot commits to the next journey without surrendering its freedom.
Three — Three remains Murderbot's mentee, and Murderbot offers access to Holism's instruction without turning suggestion into an order.
Lost Colony — The Lost Colony is safer because Murderbot fought for its people's ability to choose evacuation, research partnership, or continued residence.
