character

Seth

Captain Seth

ART's captain balances strategic realism with the exhausting work of moderating a traumatized transport and an expanding planetary crisis.

Story so far

Seth, captain of ART, survived his crew's abduction and the transport's alien-remnant seizure before being reunited and decontaminated. He remains responsible for a ship unable to enter a wormhole and for a joint mission now shadowed by Barish-Estranza.

Seth joins Dr. Mensah, Martyn, and ART in deciding that Murderbot should not return to the planet, though emergency conditions overturn that protection. He warns that Barish-Estranza's claimed scheduled reinforcement may conceal more corporate backup nearby and emphasizes the need for the university support ship that has not arrived. During Karime's negotiation he redirects ART's threatening humor in private, then receives the revelation of a hidden polar settlement with open dismay as the legal and logistical plan fractures again.

Appearance

A tall adult man with very dark skin and a mostly hairless head, wearing clean dark-blue university crew clothing aboard ART.

Role

Seth is ART's captain and the mission's human operational leader, responsible for crew safety, corporate strategy, and keeping the transport's power under judgment.

Relationships

ART — ART is Seth's ship, colleague, and traumatized responsibility; he can call it Peri and challenge its excesses without denying its personhood.
Murderbot — Murderbot is both a crucial protector and a recovering person whom Seth tries not to expose to further planetary danger.
Dr. Mensah — Dr. Mensah is Seth's Preservation counterpart in the increasingly fragile rescue plan.
