Titus

Titus au Ladros

The tyrant of House Mars, a Red carved into a Gold, sentenced to death by Darrow and butchered by Cassius in a duel for Julian.

Story so far

Recognizing Titus as a fellow Red carved into gold — one of the low, like himself, broken by a woman's rape and remade into a monster — Darrow grasps the danger: an unstable carved Red at the Institute risks every Red Ares has ever planted, and Eo's dream with them. Sobbing in the armory, he resolves that the mad dog must be put down. In the morning square he sentences Titus to death for rape, mutilation, and attempted murder; the Proctors send no MedBot, silent consent.

Titus contests and challenges to a duel of straight blades — but Cassius claims the kill, and instead of dispatching him cleanly, the Bellona carves him slowly, chanting "You killed Julian" with every thrust until the courtyard fills with hollow vengeance. Darrow, who gave license to vendetta instead of dispensing justice, fails the test in Roque's eyes. He buries his secret brother in a grove by the river and prays to meet him in the vale — mourning a man he did not love until he was dead.

Appearance

An enormous young Gold over two meters tall, hugely muscled with butcher-block knuckles and a broad hard face; hair greasy and darkened with grime as if to black out its gold, filthy skin, sorrow behind the scorn.

Role

The fallen tyrant of House Mars, a hidden Red, executed for his atrocities.
