Ugly Dan is a captain of the Grays, the Society's garrison troops the Reds call Tinpots, who police Lykos. Pulled off the Eurasian frontline after losing an arm the Society wouldn't replace with more than an old model, he is greasy, cruel, and insecure about the prosthetic Darrow pointedly eyes. He throws pebbles at Darrow, demands mocking bows, and leers at Eo as "a ripe thing for piggin'." Darrow bows in feigned obedience but privately swears he'll cut Dan's throat if he ever gets the chance.
