Darrow's sixteen-year-old wife, a Webbery silk-harvester whose fierce spirit embodies the soul of their people.
Eo is a Red of the Lykos mining colony, married six months to Darrow after taking short rations and waiting for him to reach wedAge rather than marry at fourteen as custom demanded. She works the Webbery harvesting bioSilk and is, in Darrow's eyes, too luminous for their grim world, beautiful enough to pass for a Gold. Where Darrow blames his people for not trying hard enough, Eo names the truth: they are not pioneers but slaves, and the Laurel is a carrot the Society dangles to keep them grasping.
She has twice left haemanthus flowers after a death, marking her as a keeper of grief and quiet defiance. On Laureltide she is uncharacteristically apprehensive, hiding a secret gift and a surprise for Darrow, while he expects only to celebrate a Laurel that never comes.
Tiny and slight, sixteen, with a great mane of rust-red hair and rust-red eyes; graceful and proud in motion. Wears the layered reds of the clanswomen and Darrow's woven-hair-and-silk wedding band on her finger.
Darrow's wife; the moral and spiritual heart of the Lambda clan.
