Ring Gate Gamma Burst

Gamma-ray burst · Gate radiation burst · Hub-station reaction · System-wide gamma burst · Amplified ring defense · New ring strategy

Duarte approves weaponizing the gate network: the Typhoon will reproduce the amplified burst while the Tempest uses the discovery to attack Sol early.

Story so far

Analysis shows the ring network exponentially amplifies energy from an ultrahigh magnetic field projector striking the central hub and releases lethal gamma radiation through every gate. Santiago Singh proposes stationing a Magnetar permanently in the slow zone so one ship can guard thirteen hundred approaches.

Laconian high command takes the finding to Winston Duarte, who agrees. The Eye of the Typhoon will be outfitted and sent to Medina ahead of schedule, where Singh will decide operational use of the strategy. The defense is not yet in position, but its acceptance frees the Heart of the Tempest to begin the conquest of Sol months earlier than planned.

Appearance

A brilliant yellow reaction across the central sphere paired with invisible lethal gamma radiation emerging from every ring in the network.

Role

The phenomenon has shifted from accidental collateral effect to approved imperial doctrine for controlling all gate traffic.

Relationships

Winston Duarte — Winston Duarte approves Singh's proposal after naval command carries the analysis to him.
Eye of the Typhoon — The Eye of the Typhoon will become the dedicated platform for deliberately triggering the defense.
Heart of the Tempest — The accepted strategy releases the Heart of the Tempest from guard duty and accelerates its Sol campaign.
Sources — 3 recorded facts, by chapter
Chapter 15
  • Energy striking the alien hub makes every ring emit lethal gamma radiation into its connected system, killing four freighter crews and tempting Laconian weaponization.
Chapter 17
  • Technical analysis shows the ring network exponentially amplifies energy striking the hub, potentially letting one Magnetar guard thirteen hundred gates simultaneously.
Chapter 21
  • Duarte approves weaponizing the gate network: the Typhoon will reproduce the amplified burst while the Tempest uses the discovery to attack Sol early.
