character

Saba

Underground leader · Drummer's husband · Captain of the Malaclypse · Belter resistance chief

Saba recruits twenty-one escape ships and forces Naomi to confront that protecting the sensors matters more than freeing any one group of prisoners.

Story so far

Saba has converted Naomi's breakout outline into people, false identities, explosives, and ships while preparing to seize his own Malaclypse if the assault on the Gathering Storm fails. His network contacts twenty-one docked vessels willing to load refugees and trust his timing, even as a major battle begins in Sol where Camina Drummer commands.

He gives Naomi every ship profile and asks for a safe gate schedule, then questions whether the failing Clarissa Mao can carry the operation's most important branch. Saba makes the cruel arithmetic explicit: losing the jail loses prisoners, but losing station blindness exposes every ship and dooms the whole escape. Naomi initially refuses his request to back Clarissa, but the discovery that Holden has already departed forces the same reassignment. Saba's distrust is general rather than personal; he works with imperfect people because command means staking many lives on the best uncertainty available.

Appearance

A striking brown-skinned Belter man with a compact build, tired dark-ringed eyes, and a wicked half smile, now worn down by sleepless planning in plain station clothes.

Role

Saba is the resistance commander who assembles the escape fleet and insists that collective mission dependencies outweigh the emotional claims of individual rescues.

Relationships

Naomi Nagata — He trusts Naomi Nagata's engineering and nerve while challenging her decision to prioritize Holden's prison over the sensors.
Clarissa Mao — He respects Clarissa Mao's knowledge but doubts whether her failing body can support the entire evacuation without Naomi beside her.
Camina Drummer — News of the battle in Sol threatens Camina Drummer, but he continues planning because nothing there can change Medina's immediate work.
Medina Underground — The Medina Underground extends through enough captains and crews to produce twenty-one prospective escape vessels.
