Clarissa Mao

Clarissa · Clarissa Melpomene Mao · Claire · Peaches · Melba Koh · Former mechanic of the Rocinante · Environmental-support lead

Betrayed at the sensor junction, Clarissa spends the last reserve of her failing body to kill five guards and Jordao, save Naomi, and die unafraid.

Story so far

Clarissa enters the sensor operation shaking, exhausted, and fully conscious that her illegal endocrine modifications and old revenge have become a punishment carried through decades. She installs the false traffic card that will trap Medina's arrays in repeated diagnostics after the primary power junction resets. Jordao then leads her and Naomi Nagata into five waiting Laconian security officers and reveals the card's location.

With Naomi at gunpoint and no ordinary options left, Clarissa activates the glands she has avoided for years. Time slows. Her dislocated arm, torn tendons, and bullet wounds cannot stop her before she kills all five guards, then shoots Jordao for his betrayal. The chemical rapture collapses into mortal damage in Naomi's arms. Clarissa sees Ren, calls herself a monster, and is misunderstood: she means that her old prison mantra has resolved because she is no longer afraid. Clarissa Melpomene Mao closes her eyes and dies after preserving the mission and the family that once had every reason to reject her.
