character

Bobbie Draper

Bobbie · Sergeant Draper

Bobbie's Martian audit helps Naomi distinguish Free Navy warships from the vanished colony vessels, sharpening the case that two different mysteries are unfolding.

Story so far

On Luna, Bobbie Draper settles into the restored Rocinante group with Amos and Alex, sharing crude jokes and ordinary conversation after the rescue. The ease matters because it makes room for Naomi to rejoin the room as a person rather than a patient or prisoner.

When Naomi compares the missing colony ships to Bobbie Draper's investigation of missing Martian matériel, Bobbie confirms that her audit concerned Navy ships, weapons, and supplies—not civilian colony transports. The distinction is decisive. Much of the Free Navy fleet can be linked to Mars's stolen assets, but none of the vanished colony vessels can; Bobbie's work helps reveal that Marco's theft network and the Ring disappearances cannot be the same operation.

Appearance

A very large Martian woman with a powerful athletic build and a strong alert face, wearing relaxed civilian clothes in low gravity after the strain of rescue and pursuit.

Role

Bobbie is the practical investigator whose knowledge of Mars's missing weapons prevents the crew from forcing a false explanation onto the colony-ship mystery.

Relationships

Naomi Nagata — Naomi Nagata uses Bobbie's Martian records to prove that the missing colony ships do not map onto the Free Navy's stolen military assets.
Martian military disappearances — Martian military disappearances remain Bobbie's investigation and explain the origin of Free Navy matériel, but not the Ring losses.
Rocinante — Rocinante is again the informal home where Bobbie can contribute as a trusted member of the crew's analysis.
