Sefi the Quiet

Queen of the Valkyrie

Queen of a freed people, Sefi sets off for Mars with medicine instead of weapons, embracing Ragnar's legacy and the slow liberation of the Obsidian.

Story so far

With the war won, Sefi the Quiet—queen of the united Obsidian—sets off for Mars under Holiday's supervision to begin the slow work of freeing the rest of her people, visiting the poles with medicine instead of weapons. Having seen one of the Jackal's nuclear craters in person, her eyes dark with the horror of it, she embraces the legacy of her brother Ragnar and plans to settle her people on warmer land set aside for them on Mars, away from the alien cities. Yet Darrow senses she knows, deep down, that she cannot hold them apart forever: the Obsidian will leave their prisons, grow curious, spread, and assimilate, their world—like the Reds'—never the same again.

The silent princess who became a war-queen ends the book a builder of her freed people's future.

Appearance

A towering pale Obsidian queen, white hair shaved on one side and braided long, blue skull tattoo and iron nose-bar; her severity tempered now, dressed for peace and travel rather than war.

Role

Queen of the freed Obsidian at book's end; the war-queen turned peacemaker leading her people to a new life on Mars in Ragnar's name.
